Bare Bones: Staged Readings at Theatre@First is an exciting new project offering directors, casts and audience a chance to explore a wide variety of plays in a spare, intense setting. lillibet	8:18p	Role Distribution, Show Selection and Audition Pools This subject came up tonight at Steering Committee and there just wasn't time to explore it past the immediate issue at hand, but it seemed like there was more discussion to be had and perhaps more voices to be solicited, so I thought I'd go ahead and post about it. You don't have to be part of Theatre@First to have an opinion. I'm going to start with a poll, so I can get an overview, but I do encourage you to comment, because I realize this may have a lot of nuances and complexity for many people that won't be captured in my options. Poll #1498617 Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: None, participants: 37 If a specific show (e.g. Top Girls by Caryl Churchill) were proposed that had only female roles in it I would support the proposal 16 (43.2%) I would oppose the proposal 0 (0.0%) My decision would depend on whether or not I liked the show 21 (56.8%) My decision would depend on other factors, independent of the sex distribution of the roles 14 (37.8%) I would advocate that the director(s) give serious consideration to cross-casting, perhaps even be required to cross-cast some roles 5 (13.5%) There being a single male role would change my opinion significantly 0 (0.0%) I would need another ticky box to express my opinion 4 (10.8%) If a proposal were made to solicit plays with only female roles for a specific project I would support the proposal 16 (43.2%) I would oppose the proposal 3 (8.1%) My decision would depend on other factors, independent of sex distribution of roles 21 (56.8%) I would advocate that the director(s) give serious consideration to cross-casting, perhaps even be required to cross-cast some roles 5 (13.5%) I would need anohter ticky box to express my opinion 6 (16.2%) If a specific show (e.g. Glenn Garry Glen Ross) were proposed that had only male roles in it I would support the proposal 12 (32.4%) I would oppose the proposal 3 (8.1%) My decision would depend on whether I liked the show 16 (43.2%) My decision would depend on other factors, independent of the sex distribution of the roles 13 (35.1%) I would advocate that the director(s) give serious consideration to cross-casting, perhaps even be required to cross-cast some roles 12 (32.4%) There being a single female role would significantly change my opinion 1 (2.7%) I would need another ticky box to express my opinion 4 (10.8%) If a proposal were made to solicity plays with only male roles for a specific project I would support the proposal 10 (27.0%) I would oppose the proposal 8 (21.6%) My decision would depend on other factors, independent of the sex distribution of the roles 17 (45.9%) I would advocate that the director(s) give serious consideration to cross-casting, perhaps even be required to cross-cast some roles 10 (27.0%) I would need another ticky box to express my opinion 5 (13.5%) (37 Comments |Comment on this)
